FOUNDED BY A SURVIVOR
Nasreen Sheikh, the founder of Empowerment Collective. As a survivor of modern slavery, Nasreen's journey began in small rural village in Rajura, an undocumented village on the India-Nepal border, where she witnessed and experienced the harsh realities of forced marriage, child labor, and extreme poverty. Determined to change her fate, she escaped to Kathmandu, where she became a child laborer in a textile factory. Her life took a turn when she met Leslie John, an American intellectual and writer, who became her mentor, teaching her to read, write, and understand basic human rights.
END MODERN SLAVERY
End Modern Slavery Now, founded by Nasreen Sheikh, is a movement dedicated to ending modern slavery in all its forms. Spearheaded by Sheikh's inspiring leadership as a survivor, this movement emphasizes the crucial role of informed consumer choices and transparent supply chains, while advocating for global policy changes and increased awareness to ensure a future where every individual lives free from exploitation.
"Echoes of Inspiration" is an exclusive documentary that immerses viewers in a community's cultural and spiritual rebirth. The film showcases traditional music and dance, leads through a behind-the-scenes of our work and shares the transformative stories of local artisans overcoming adversity. A central moment is the interactive puja ceremony, symbolizing the release of the past and the embrace of future aspirations. The narrative is further enriched by the empowering testimonies of international women leaders, illustrating a global tapestry of resilience and hope. This film offers a profound journey through tradition, transformation, and the universal quest for empowerment.
